What is a Shape CD?
A Shape CD is a compact disc that is cut into a creative shape to enhance the uniqueness of the product.
In our case, we shaped our Xmas CD to resemble a Xmas ornament so that you could play it when the mood was right, as well as hang it on your tree for holiday color.
Where will this CD play?
- in your standard CD player that holds 1 CD
- in your boombox
- in your 3-CD carousel
- in your 5-CD carousel
Where will this CD NOT play?
- in any CD jukebox (mechanical picker)
- in your car dashboard CD player
- in most car trunk CD players (the ones that have cassettes or trays of CD's)
- in some PC CD drives
Audio CD vs. Data CD (a balancing act)
Computer CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R (etc.) drives are principally data drives. That means that when you put a CD into them they spin very, very fast (~50X) to start reading the data on the disc. An audio CD only spins at 2X.
When you spin a normal, perfectly round CD at 50X it just spins and spins. However, when you spin our Shape CD at 50X it wobbles really really fast. Then, after about 30 seconds, it slows down. Why? Because our Shape CD is not a perfect circle, nor is it perfectly centered. So, it spins fast and wobbles. But after the wobble is over the computer should recognize the CD as an audio CD and only spin it at 2X from that point forward.
The Results...
- our Shape CD may not play in all computers and it will wobble every time
- our Shape CD may not play in some home stereos and most car stereos
Reminder... 100% Guarantee
Seriously, we get you your money back if it doesn't work for you. We'd just like for you to hear us sing.
